Public Notice on Water Quality Issued
The City has been requested to issue a public notice regarding the public water system. This notice involves Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs), which are produced in drinking water and are naturally occurring in the water supply, which are not harmful, however once in contact with Chlorine their properties change. Chlorine is used to disinfect and create a safe drinking water throughout the distribution system. Over time, this combination of natural organics create DBPs which, when above a certain level and consumed over a long period of time, can have health affects in some people. Junction City carefully monitors the formation of these DBPs and uses control strategies that include flushing of the system with particular emphasis on areas found to be near or at established limits. The attached letter further clarifies this issue. If you have further questions please contact Veolia Water at 785-762-5855.
