On 08/18/2012, at approximately 1200 hours, the Junction City Police Department arrested Sterling D. Hickman, 33, of Junction City.
Mr. Hickman was booked in to the Geary County Detention Center on the charges of Murder in the first degree and aggravated battery.
Mr. Hickman was held on a no bond status until he appears in the Geary County District Court, on 08/20/2012, for first appearance.
The charges stem from the shooting that occurred on 08/18/2012, at approximately 0351 hours, at the National Guard Armory located at 500 Airport Road, Junction City, Kansas.
The investigation is ongoing by Junction City Detectives.
On 081812, at about 0351 hours, Junction City Police were called to the National Guard Armory located at 500 Airport Road in connection with a report that two people had been shot.
Upon arrival, officers found a man and a woman injured. The man was taken to Geary Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The woman was Life Flighted to Stormont Vail in Topeka where she underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the stomach area.
The cause of death of the male subject is still under investigation.
The names of the victims is being withheld pending notification of relatives. The investigation into the shooting is on going at this time.
