Emergency Medical Service (EMS)
Junction City Fire Department (JCFD) provides Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support pre-hospital care and transport for all of Geary County, including Junction City, Milford, and Grandview Plaza.
Qualified Staff
The JCFD consists of 52 firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) that are qualified by the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS) to provide Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Care to the community
JCFD members hold emergency medical certifications from the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic level through the level of Paramedic.
EMT-Intermediate level Advanced Initiatives
In 1998, we were the first EMS organization in the State of Kansas to implement the EMT-Intermediat level advanced initiatives, allowing our EMT-intermediates to perform endotracheal intubation and administer Albuterol in the field. We continue the trend today, allowing our AEMT's to operate at the full scope of the AEMT.
Progressive Technology
The Junction City Fire Department has a progressive emergency medical service protocols, and equipment.
- Adult and pediatric intraosseous infusion
- Automated CPR device using the Zoll AutoPulse
- Chest decompression
- Cricothyrotomy or surgical airway
- Rapid sequence intubation
- Stryker Power Cots, and power load system
- Ventilatory support using Zoll ZVent
Our paramedics also provide advanced life support by having the ability to administer 27 different emergency medications, as well as provide cardiac defibrillation and transcutaneous pacing.
Continuing Education
JCFD provides continuing education needed to keep EMS Skills current. Members of the department are KBEMS Qualified Instructor Coordinators.
